FIVE: ALBUMS

Stevie Wonder -Songs In The Key Of Life. Most artists are lucky if they have 3 hits on one album, this double album is virtually all hits. Stand out track is Sir Duke
Blur - Blur. Their finest album with some inspired song writing. The obvious track is Song 2 but listen to Look Inside America
Belle And Sebastien - If You're Feeling Sinister. Their second album, every song is a wonderfully crafted tale. Listen to Get Me Away From Here I'm Dying
The Maccabees - Colour It In. Their first album and still my favourite. I can't walk past a leisure centre with a wave machine without thinking 'Latchmere's got a wave machine'. Listen to Precious Time.
Sun Kil Moon - Benji. Essentially it is just a man telling anaecdotes from his past over acoustic guitar, but his tales are so incredibly raw and honest it becomes a compelling and exceptionally dark spiral into near depression. Listen to I Watched The Film The Song Remains The Same

FIVE: SONGS

Raspberry Beret - Prince - Just give it one listen.
Maps - The Yeah Yeah Yeahs - (1:58 - 2:14)
Jolene - Ray LaMontagne - I cannot sing and this song makes me wish I could.
Me And Julio Down By The School Yard - Paul Simon - You have to watch The Royal Tenembaums to understand
Blank Space - Taylor Swift - I should hate this, I want to hate this, but I can't

FIVE: COMEDY FILM LINES

Some Like It Hot - Sugar: Water polo? Isn't that terribly dangerous? Junior: I'll say. I had two ponies drowned under me.

Dumb And Dumber - Police Officer 'Pull over' Harry 'No it's a cardigan but thanks for noticing'
Airplane - Rumack: Can you fly this plane, and land it? Ted Striker: Surely you can't be serious. Rumack: I am serious... and don't call me Shirley.
The Life Of Brian - "He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy"
Groundhog Day - Phil: Do you ever have déjà vu, Mrs. Lancaster? Mrs. Lancaster: I don't think so, but I could check with the kitchen.

FIVE: TV DRAMAS
Life On Mars - Lost its way
Sherlock - Conan Doyle's classics are expertly brought to the small screen
Better Call Saul - Saul Goodman, expertly played by Bob Odenkirk, uncovers the origins of one of the most morally questionable lawyers ever to
The Walking Dead - Zombies
Columbo - Peter Faulk plays the disheveled detective in the series which turned the genre on its head.

FIVE: LINES FROM FILMS I WISHED I'D SAID

Gene Wilder - Willy Wonka : Wrong, sir! Wrong! Under section 37B of the contract signed by him, it states quite clearly that all offers shall become null and void if - and you can read it for yourself in this photostatic copy I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained, et cetera, et cetera... Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum, et cetera, et cetera... Memo bis punitor delicatum!  It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal! You stole fizzy lifting drinks! You bumped into the ceiling which now has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing! You lose! Good day, sir!

Gene Hackman - Royal Tenenbaum : I'm very sorry for your loss. Your mother was a terribly attractive woman.

John Goodman - Walter Sobchak : The chinaman is not the issue here, Dude. I'm talking about drawing a line in the sand, Dude. Across this line, you DO NOT... Also, Dude, chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please.

Harrison Ford - Han Solo : I know

David Strathairn - Edward R Murrow : We have currently a built-in allergy to unpleasant or disturbing information. Our mass media reflect this. But unless we get up off our fat surpluses and recognize that television in the main is being used to distract, delude, amuse, and insulate us, then television and those who finance it, those who look at it, and those who work at it, may see a totally different picture too late. (this final quotation is a real line from Edward R Murrow, US Radio and TV Journalist in 1958)
